About the Artist - MjKings
Profile
MjKings has explored, experimented & expanded on her art practice in recent years; to focus
primarily within the Hip Hop Culture. Her interest & passion for this genre has progressively
manifested within part of the Artists core character; its beliefs, its acceptance & its inspiration
that are ingrained within each element of the culture’s rich depth, are an empowering force;
its words,
-speak to the soul,
-softens the spirit,
-heals the heart,
-and composes creativity.
These core beliefs are fundamental to the Artists underlying influence.
Developing through many experimental works; using various materials, colours & subject matter, an occurring theme & interest began to make a clear emergence.
MjKings subject matter primarily began utilising single, stand alone images of strong, influential, creative, hard-working, female artists! Bgirls, skater girls, singers. Females easily recognised within the hip hop culture; inspirational & respected within their own genre, and a powerful figure even to the unaccustomed.
The art practice of MjKings requires a view into the images further depths. The artworks very inspiration can be matched within the authentic layers of the hip hop culture; dance, movement. music, pattern. culture, theme. strength, body. layers of influence and inspiration enhanced with the compounding characters of charcoal and pastels. Whilst a minimal colour pallet refines and structures the very essence of the image.
“I have always lived and breathed creativity; it is my comfort, my adventure; my saviour and my escape; it is my expression.” - MjKings
